About the Service
An access arrangements assessment identifies whether a student is eligible for support in exams, in line with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations.
This may include adjustments such as extra time, a reader, a scribe, or the use of a computer.
Who is this for?
Students in secondary school (GCSE level)
College and sixth form students (A-Level or equivalent)
Students in further or higher education
Individuals with dyslexia or other specific learning difficulties
About the Assessment
Access arrangements assessments are carried out in accordance with current JCQ guidelines.
The assessment looks at how a student processes information and whether this has a significant impact on exam performance.
Schools and colleges use the results, alongside evidence of need and normal way of working, to apply for appropriate access arrangements.
What the Assessment Covers
Standardised tests of reading, writing, and processing speed
Assessment of working memory where appropriate
Consideration of the student’s history and current difficulties
Identification of appropriate exam arrangements based on evidence
What You Receive
A written report suitable for use by schools or colleges
Clear recommendations for appropriate access arrangements
Evidence aligned with JCQ requirements
Important Information
Access arrangements are not awarded automatically following assessment.
They are granted by the school or college based on:
assessment evidence
the student’s normal way of working
current JCQ regulations
Fee
£200 for assessment and form completion.
